Tutorial

The question I will be focusing on over the summer will be: How are representation constructed in reality T.V  shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians?
THINK ABOUT:
- how positively or negatively it is represented
- media language: camera work - how it is designed to amuse the audience, how the narrative is constructed, how it is edited

How they appear to audiences? - positively or negatively

Critical investigation

5 possible ideas
1) The first possible media text that I might consider doing as my presentation subject, is the e-media source of Facebook and Twitter. How have social networking sites represented teenagers to be seen in a negative way and how have they impacted teenagers lives?

2) The second possible media text that I might consider, is how sensationally women are representation in perfume T.V advertisements such as.

3) The third possible media text I may consider is doing is, how negatively people are represented in reality T.V shows such as "Big brother" and "Keeping up with the Kardashians"

4) Do video games such as "Fifa" or "Wii sports" encourage teenagers to be more physically active or not?

5) How do newspapers such as "The Sun" portray women to be seen in a negative way?

TOP 3 IDEAS

1) How have social networking sites represented teenagers to be seen in a negative way and how have they impacted teenagers lives?
  • Teenagers aren't doing as well in school due to the lack of concentration
  • Telegraph said: It takes 23 minutes for students to get back onto task, as they get distracted easily once they receive a text message/BBM/Whatsapp, they begin to check all social networking sites.
BBC, Facebook
They say they will remove the videos, which are reported but they were still there two hours later. Showing how they went against the audience, and didn't do as promised.
BBC, Facebook
Content isn't being removed or hasn't been evaluated using outdated criteria.

2) How sensationally women are representation in perfume advertisements?

as the society is changing woman are becoming more and more immune to it, showing more of their body and a sexual appeal rather than revolving it entirely on the perfume! this is shown through their body language, for example they wear very little clothes and look very seductive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SrqSc-GHS0 this is an example, of how woman have drastically changed showing they have more authority and power.

3) How negatively people are represented in reality T.V shows such as "Big brother" and "Keeping up with the Kardashians"

this is an example as it consists of racist comments, this is showing a negative side to BIG BROTHER and  this did have a moral panic impact on the audiences. As their were loads of complaints received.
